Mrs. Altaretta I. “Rita” Rossell, 79, of Galesburg, Illinois died 5:14 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born September 14, 1941 in Galesburg to Gerald L. and Hazel M. (Reed) Schroeder. She married Eugene Dale Rossell February 27, 1960 in Dallas City, Illinois.
Surviving is her husband of 61 years, a son, Greg (and Dorie) Rossell of Knoxville, Illinois, two daughters, Gina Gerstenberger of Galesburg and Laurie (and Chris) Moore of North Liberty, Iowa, a brother, Harland (and Connie) Schroeder of Fishers, Indiana, nine grandchildren, Amy Gerstenberger, Andy Gerstenberger, K.C. Swanson, Melissa Swanson, Abbie Moore, Michelle McBride, Megan Moore, Danielle Rossell, and Evan Rossell, and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Jack, Gene, Gary, and Larry Schroeder, and two sisters, Geraldine Butler and Dorothy Scott.
Rita graduated from Dallas City High School in 1959. She was a homemaker most of her life and worked for Butler Manufacturing Company in Galesburg for 10 years. She enjoyed spending time loving and caring for her family and friends.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Home and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel. Chaplain Jordan Knight will officiate. Due to guidelines associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing and facemasks will be required. Entombment will be in the Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens Veterans Mausoleum, Galesburg.
