Mrs. Ardith (Murk) Tubbs

Ardith Tubbs, 90, formerly of Abingdon, passed away at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Arista Healthcare in Naperville, Illinois.

She was born April 3, 1928 on the family farm in Cedar Township, Knox County, Illinois, the 11th of 12 children born to Otto and Gerda Ahlstrand Murk.  She married Floyd J. Tubbs on June 25, 1949 in Abingdon.  He preceded her in death on October 27, 1986.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and five sisters.

Ardith is survived by two daughters, Mary (and James) Wilkerson of Bolingbrook, Illinois and Laura Ann Loh of Phoenix, Arizona; six granddaughters, four grandsons, and five great-grandsons; one sister, Doreen Sanford of Knoxville; one sister-in-law, Florence Murk of Galesburg; and several nieces and nephews and their families.

She attended Cross Lane School and later graduated from Abingdon High School in 1946.  She attended Western Illinois University.  She taught school for two years and later worked at the Abingdon Blue Bell Factory and American Sanitary Manufacturing Company.  She then worked at the Abingdon Pottery Credit Union for 22 years and served as the manager for the last 8 years, retiring in June of 1990.  She taught piano lessons in her home for forty years.  She was a member of the former First Congregational United Church of Christ in Abingdon and served as the organist for 25 years.  She was the organist at the Abingdon Christian Church and the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel for many years.  She was a Girl Scout troop leader for 8 years in Abingdon.

Cremation will be accorded.  Graveside ash committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 10, 2018 at the Abingdon Cemetery.  Rev. Darryl McDaniel will officiate. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
