Mrs. Barbara K. DeJaynes, 73 of Abingdon, passed away at 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at University Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.
She was born June 7, 1947 in Galesburg, the daughter of James and Evelyn (Brashear) Woollums. She married Donald DeJaynes in 1965 in Jacksonville, Illinois, and they later divorced. Barb later enjoyed her time with her life partner, Garry Stegens and he preceded her in death on September 3, 2019. She was also preceded in death by her father, her mother and stepfather, Evelyn and Jesse Cabrera, and her brother, James K. “Jim” Woollums.
Barb is survived by her children, Stacey (and Eric) Leath of Galesburg and Donald K. DeJaynes of Abingdon; two granddaughters, Haley Leath and Kiersten Leath and two great-grandchildren, MacKenzie and Jaxon.
She attended Galesburg and Valley schools. She lived in Abingdon most of her adult life. She worked at the former Abingdon Industries for 19 years. She then worked at St. Mary’s Square in Galesburg and most recently, she was a direct service person for the DD Homes Brackett Court in Abingdon. She was a former Sunday school teacher at First Assembly of God in Abingdon. She enjoyed watching American Pickers on TV, going to the riverboats, but most of all, she enjoyed traveling to Branson, Missouri.
As she requested, cremation was accorded. To celebrate her life, the family will receive relatives and friends from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, November 1, 2020 at Abbe Lanes Restaurant in Abingdon. Private burial of her ashes was at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg next to her Mother, Evelyn Cabrera. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
