Mrs. Barbara Myers Obituary

Barbara Ellen Myers, 75 of rural Galesburg, passed away at 12:45 a.m. Friday, March 30, 2018 at her home with her son and daughter by her side.

She was born May 2, 1942 at Graham Hospital in Canton, the daughter of Anthony T. and Bertha E. (Murphy) Gasparovic, who preceded her in death.  She married Kenneth W. Myers on November 6, 1960 at the Cuba Christian Church.  He preceded her in death on March 26, 2014

Barb is the mother of Robert A. “Bob” (and Tammy) Myers of rural Galesburg, Debra J. “Deb” Myers of rural Galesburg and Keith W. Myers (deceased); grandmother of 15 grandkids, Jess (and Logan Weir), Ryan, Matthew (and Alisha), and Josh Walters, Emma (and Drew Garrett), Jake (and Jordan) and Shelby Sells, Morgan (and Tom) Stevenson, Erik Swanson, Abbey, Miranda (and Greg Davis) and Natalie Myers, Devon, Kyle (deceased) and Connor Myers and 8 great-grandkids, Kaycee Walters, Samuel Stevenson, Scarlett Sells, Morgan Sells, Laken Weir, Sierra Larson, Havana Ponce, Isabella Davis and two on the way; sister of Anthony R. Gasparovic of Cuba, Marion C. (and Pat) Gasparovic of Indiana and Daniel J. (and Cathy) Gasparovic and Jean C. ( and Ross) Williams of Cuba; and aunt to her many, much loved, nieces and nephews.

She graduated from Cuba High School in 1960.  While growing up in the Cuba area, she worked at the Day & Palin Grocery Store.  After her marriage, she worked at the former Gale Products Division of OMC in Galesburg in 1970.  She later worked as a cashier for 20 years at the former Eagles Grocery Store and Econo Foods, both in Galesburg.  She also worked at Hedding Grade School and the Care Center of Abingdon.  She never retired but quit working when she became sick.  She was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher for almost 40 years.  She also did funeral dinners at the church for many years (after Shirley Simkins), served as an elder and deaconess, was worship chairman for 14 years and visited the area nursing homes.

She was a volunteer driver for the Abingdon Senior Van, volunteered at the Care Center of Abingdon, the Abingdon Food Pantry and Feed My Lambs.  She enjoyed mowing her yard, gardening, helping on the farm and watching her kids and grandkids at school and extra-curricular activities.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at the Abingdon Christian Church, 409 S. Main St. in Abingdon.  Rev. Darryl McDaniel will officiate.  Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.  Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hope Cemetery in Warren County.
