Mrs. Beverly Jean Onion, 82 of Abingdon, passed away at 5:15 p.m. Thursday, October 28, 2021, at Heartland Health Care Center in Galesburg.
She was born February 20, 1939 in Prairie City, the daughter of Carl E. and June E. (McLaren) Hatch. She married Russell G. Onion, Jr. on October 26, 1958 in Abingdon.
Bev is survived by her husband of 63 years, Russ; two daughters, Shelley (Steve) Riney of Peoria and Shawn (John) DeJaynes of Abingdon; one son, Gail Onion of Abingdon; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert E. Hatch of Galesburg; one sister, Carolyn Hughes of Abingdon; and nieces, nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Marie Hatch.
Bev has lived in Abingdon all of her life. She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1957. She worked at the former Wareco Service Station in Abingdon for 23 years, retiring in October of 1997. She was a member of the former Congregational Church in Abingdon. She enjoyed sewing and was an avid bowler in her earlier years. She enjoyed spending time with her family.
As she requested, cremation will be accorded. To celebrate her life, her family will receive relatives and friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, November 14, 2021 at the Abingdon Community Center, 801 W. Martin St. in Abingdon.
