Mrs. Charlotte A. (Stufflebeem) Surber

Mrs. Charlotte A. Surber, 83, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away Thursday, June 26, 2025 at her home.

Charlotte was born December 31, 1941, in Drakesville, Iowa, the daughter of Milo and Lucille (Wages) Stufflebeem. She married Virgil “Pete” Surber in 1972 in Kirksville, Missouri.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Virgil of Galesburg: daughter, Patricia (and Sonny) Parkman of Houston, son, Roy (and Cathy) Shepherd of Ottumwa, Iowa; daughter, Lisa Greve of Ruthven, Iowa; sons, Bradley (and Danielle) Surber of Galesburg; Paul Surber of Galesburg, Christopher Surber of Galesburg, Kevin Surber of Galesburg, Brian Surber of Galesburg; daughters, Barbara (and Jeff) Goodwin of Monmouth; Brenda (and Randy) Miller of Ottumwa; Debbie (and Les) McLaughlin of Ottumwa; sisters, Carolyn Dearborn of Bloomfield, Iowa; Sandra Stufflebeem- Marks, Florida; Peggy Stanton of Bettendorf, Iowa; Carol Johnson of Bloomfield, Iowa; brothers, Michael Stufflebeem of Ottumwa; Carl Stufflebeem of Ottumwa; Charles Stufflebeem of Ottumwa; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great- great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, bonus mother, Alice; a son, Ray Shepherd; brothers, Clell “Mose” Stufflebeem and Cleon Stufflebeem; sister, Linda Fitzsimmons; daughter in-law, Tracy Surber; grandson, Zachary Dee and great-great grandson, Mitchell.

Charlotte was a CNA at Applegate East. She enjoyed going to yard sales, playing Yahtzee, dancing, listening to family playing music, drinking Mountain Dew and loved her kids and grandkids. She loved to go shopping and would spend all of her husband’s money doing so. lol

A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Home and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. A Funeral Service will follow at 2 p.m. Cremation will follow the service. Following the service, a celebration of life will be held at 749 Henderson Rd. in Knoxville.
