Mrs. E. Joyce (Nelson) Swedlund

E. Joyce Swedlund, 89, of Galesburg, passed away at 12:25 p.m. Monday, February 1, 2021, in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

Joyce was born October 18, 1931, in Alexis, Illinois, the daughter of Iver and Elizabeth (Lundeen) Nelson.  She married Donald Swedlund on November 5, 1950 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altona.

She is survived by her husband of over 70 years, Donald; two sons, Jim (Karen) Swedlund of Monmouth and Joe (Terry) Swedlund of Allen, Texas; and two daughters, Kathleen Perry of Elgin and Angela (Doug) Frank of Dunlap.  She was the proud grandmother to five granddaughters, two grandsons, and one great grandson.

Joyce was raised on a family farm in Alexis.  She attended ROVA High School, graduating in 1949.  She worked as a secretary at the Knox County Oil Company and Gale Products before becoming a homemaker and devoting her life to raising her family.  Joyce was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Galesburg, serving through the years on various committees, was a choir member, and Sunday school teacher.  She was a lifelong member of the Mi Mi Neighborhood Card Club, as well as a member of a bridge club and Tuscarora Study Club.  She loved china painting, needle work, gardening, sewing, and cooking.  Her greatest love was her family.

Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel.  The family will not be present.  Private family funeral service will be Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at the chapel with Rev. Tim Anderson officiating.  Burial will follow in East Linwood Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 304 E.
