Mrs. E. Suzanne "Sue" (Marvel) McGovern

E. Suzanne “Sue” McGovern, 81, of Toulon, died at 3:30 a.m. Monday, March 29, 2021, in OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

She was born November 1, 1939, in Galesburg, the daughter of Raymond A. and Gladys I. (Pallister) Marvel.  She married James Joseph McGovern on October 3, 1959, in Galesburg.  He preceded her in death September 17, 2006 after nearly 47 years of marriage.

She is survived by seven children, Ann (Mark) Pedersen of Wheaton, Julia Stone of Peoria, Rita Burrows of Galva, Janet (Robert) Stoffel of Indianapolis, Indiana, Patrick McGovern of Ashford, Alabama, Mark McGovern of Galesburg, and James (Sandra) McGovern Jr. of Ishpeming, Michigan; and six grandchildren, Joseph (Lynn) Burrows, Shelby Stone, James (Samantha) McGovern III, Jenna Stoffel, Christopher Burrows, and Jesse McGovern.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Sue was raised and educated in Galesburg, where she was a member of the First United Methodist Church and graduated from Galesburg High School in 1957.  She then attended Western Illinois University for one year and graduated from the American Institute of Commerce in Davenport, Iowa in 1959.  Sue had lived in Galesburg, rural Maquon, and Elmwood.  She held various work positions, including at Uniform-ly Perfect in Peoria.  Sue enjoyed collecting antiques.

Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, April 2, 2021, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel.  Funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Vince Rohn officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.  Due to guidelines associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing and facemasks will be required with limited occupancy.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Spoon River Valley Scenic Drive, P.O.
