Mrs. Esther Louise (Morrow) Crummer

Mrs. Esther Louise Crummer, 91, of Galesburg, Illinois died peacefully at 7:00 pm Monday, December 24, 2018 at Marigold Rehab and Health Care Center.

She was born December 24, 1927 in Galesburg, the daughter of Ulysess and Rebecca Gash Morrow. She married Raymond L. Crummer on February 29, 1952 in Knox County, Illinois. He preceded her in death on December 15, 1962.

Esther is survived by her children, Garie (Etta) Morrow of Tracy, California, Cynthia (Wickie) Lyons of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Sheila (and the late Joseph) Crummer-Howard of Calumet City, Illinois, and Michael (Janice) Crummer of Wataga, Illinois; her brother, Charles (Dorothy) Morrow of Galesburg; her sister, Nora Morrow of Galesburg; a devoted granddaughter, Kenya Crummer of Galesburg and her children, Mekenzie and Keigen Crummer; great grandchildren were especially close and faithful to their “Grandma Esther” and other numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her son, Von Crummer, her brother, Edwin Morrow and her sister, Shirley “Top” Wilburn.

Esther worked for the former Galesburg Research Hospital in the laundry department and later at Gale Products. She was a long term member of the Allen Chapel AME Church and more recently attended the First Baptist Church. Esther LOVED to shop. But she definitely didn’t miss any bus shopping trips. She was an avid walker and walked everywhere she needed to go.  According to her, “She had walked to California and back”.  Later in life, she walked TO the mall daily for exercise. She loved her family and had a heart to serve whenever there was a need. She just stepped in to help.

Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 am Thursday, April 18, 2019 at East Linwood Cemetery. Her son, Deacon Michael Crummer will officiate. Cremation was accorded. Memorials may be made to the Allen Chapel AME or the Guardian Angels Humane Society.
