Mrs. F. Sue (Hopping) Taylor

Mrs. F. Sue Taylor, 72, of Abingdon, Illinois died at 7:31 p.m. Sunday, March 5, 2023, in her home. 

She was born April 11, 1950, in Vermont, Illinois to Clifford and Margaret (McCormick) Hopping.  She married Gerald G. Waters, August 24, 1966, in Palmyra, Missouri.  He preceded her in death May 23, 1968.  She later married John Taylor, Sr., December 20, 1968, in Palmyra, Missouri. 

Surviving is her husband of 54 years, John Taylor, Sr. of Abingdon, three sons, Robert “RE” Waters of Prairie City, Illinois, John “Dink” (and Rebecca) Taylor, Jr. of Prairie City, and Jerry “Bear” Taylor of Prairie City, a daughter, Melissa “Mitz” Gray of Abingdon, three brothers, Charles Hopping of Industry, Illinois, Donald Hopping of Table Grove, Illinois, and Clifford Hopping of Abingdon, a sister, Donna (and Jerry) Van Opdorp of Atkinson, Illinois, 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, Jerry Elden Taylor, and two brothers, Ronald Hopping and Gary Hopping. 

Sue worked for Maytag Manufacturing Company for over 30 years.  She worked several different jobs for Maytag including assembler and custodian.  Sue listened to all kinds of music, but her favorite was Elvis Presley.  She enjoyed playing board games and doing crossword puzzles.  In her free time, she watched television, including the old shows like The Andy Griffith Show, The Golden Girls, and any of the Hallmark Chanel movies.  Sue was very social, would talk to anyone, and never met a stranger.  She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  She will be missed by those who knew her. 

Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 10, 2023, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Abingdon Chapel.  As Sue requested, cremation will follow the visitation.  Memorials may be made to the Knox County Humane Society.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
