Mrs. Fern L. (Lovitt) James

Mrs. Fern L. James, 85 of Mission, Texas formerly of Monmouth and Galesburg, Illinois passed away at 12:30 am Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at The Gardens at Brookridge Assisted Living Center in Pharr, Texas.

Fern was born April 20, 1935 in LaHarpe, Illinois the daughter of Sterling and Grace Sappington Lovitt. She married James Wilkinson July 17, 1955, he preceded her in death on June 20, 1997.

Fern is survived by her children, Jerald Wilkinson of Mission and Jay Wilkinson of Monmouth and two grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jim, her brother, Kenneth Lovitt and her sister, Barbara Wessels.

Fern graduated from Abingdon High School in 1953. She worked alongside her husband, James for over 35 years at Jim’s Donut Shop. After his death she married Aven James in 1999. The two of them spent their winters in Texas from 1999-2013. They enjoyed playing shuffleboard. Fern was of the Baptist faith.

Private Family Graveside services will be held at Monmouth City Cemetery with Rev. Daniel Siems officiating. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson Disease Foundation.
