Mrs. H. Joan (Lind) Hinkson

Mrs. H. Joan Hinkson, 91, of Galesburg, Illinois died 11:45 a.m. Friday, October 27, 2023, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg. 

She was born November 2, 1931, in Galesburg to Carl and Edith (Rickords) Lind.  She married Ben J. Hinkson on August 16, 1927, in Palmyra, Missouri.  He preceded her in death after 68 years of marriage on February 10, 2023. 

Surviving is a son, Jay (and Vicki) Hinkson of Normal, Illinois, two granddaughters, Gabrielle Hinkson and Cheyenne (and Mike) Culleton, two great grandsons, Kaiden Culleton and Kannon Culleton, and a sister-in-law who cared for her, Sue Shumaker of Galesburg.  She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Ron “Hink” Hinkson and an infant son, Craig Arthur Hinkson, four sisters, and three brothers. 

Joan worked in the produce department for A&P Grocery Store in Galesburg and later worked in the meat department for Eagles Food Center in Galesburg for several years.  She was a member of First Christian Church in Galesburg. 

As Joan requested, there will be no public visitation or funeral service.  A private graveside service will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg.  Memorials may be made to the O.A.K.S Senior Center in Galesburg.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
