Mrs. Harriett Anderson Obituary

Harriett F. Anderson, 94, of Galesburg, died at 1:01 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2020, in Heartland Health Care Center.

Harriett was born January 19, 1926 in Watseka, Illinois, the daughter Edgar and Florence (Panhorst) Wood.  She married Earl R. Crouse on January 6, 1946 in Galesburg.  He preceded her in death on November 28, 1966.  She later married Russell G. Anderson on June 15, 1968 in Galesburg   He preceded her in death on January 1, 2008.

She is survived by a son, Roger (Dianna) Crouse of Knoxville; two daughters, Janlyn (Jamie) Peters of Galesburg and Connie (Gary) Farmer of Flintstone, Georgia; a stepson, Gary (Jennifer) Anderson of Salinas, California; a stepdaughter, Bonnie (Wendell) Van Fleet of Galesburg; a step son-in-law, Joe Sopher of Knoxville; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; a stepdaughter, Dixie Sopher; a brother; and four sisters.

Harriett was raised in Milford, Illinois and moved to Galesburg in 1940.  She attended Galesburg High School, graduating in 1944.  Her first job was the assistant manager for the former McClelland’s Department Store.  She then worked for Dr. Hodierne for 12 years as his dental assistant.  Her last position was in sales with Sears for 12 years. 

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Galesburg and was very active in church activities.  She was a member of TOPS #408 and the Galesburg Women’s Club.  She loved to golf, garden, bowl, read and travel.  Harriett also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and watching basketball.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, private family graveside service will be Tuesday, January 5, 2021, in Memorial Park Cemetery.  Rev. Martha Jean Fitch will officiate.  Public memorial services will be announced once it is safe to gather.  Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is honored to serve the family.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
