Mrs. Iva Jane Jackson, 82 of Abingdon, passed away at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at her home with her family at her bedside.
She was born October 14, 1937 in Clayton, Illinois, the daughter of Francis T. and LuRue (Davis) Johnson. She married John H. Jackson on May 23, 1955 in Mt. Sterling, Illinois.
Jane is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, John; her children, Joni Carlson, Julie Nelson, Mary Jane (and Gary, Sr.) Clayton and John Randy Jackson, all of Abingdon; 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, 5 step-great-grandchildren and 9 step-great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Coachman of Texas and Barbara Streeter of Quincy; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her foster parents, Clause and Carrie Kee, one son-in-law, Joseph Carlson and one grandson, Justin Carlson, one brother, Dale, and three sisters, Nina, Irene and Nancy.
She had lived in the Abingdon area most of her adult life. She worked as a cook, nurse aide and in housekeeping at the former St. Martha Nursing Home in Knoxville. She later worked at Admiral/Maytag in Galesburg and then at the former Mill’s Restaurant in Knoxville and Don’s Restaurant in Galesburg. She was of the Methodist faith. Her hobbies included fishing, camping, playing yard games, putting together puzzles and working crossword puzzles. She loved her family.
Cremation will be accorded. To celebrate her life, the family will receive relatives and friends from noon to ? Saturday, August 15, 2020 at the family home, 110 W. Jackson St. in Abingdon. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
