Mrs. Joan G. Hannon, 78, of Winter Haven, Florida, formerly of Galesburg, Illinois died 5:13 a.m. Thursday, October 21, 2021 at Winter Haven Hospital.
She was born July 5, 1943 in Avon, Illinois to Wilbur and Winifred (Harrison) Moore. She spent her childhood in Rio, Illinois and Clute, Texas and graduated from Brazosport High School in Freeport, Texas in 1961. After graduation she moved to Rio to live with her uncle and aunt, Walter “Kize” and Vera Landon. She married James Bailey December 2, 1962. She later married Patrick Hannon, August 6, 1993 in Jackson, Michigan.
Surviving is her husband, Patrick Hannon of Winter Haven, Florida, two sons, Mark (and Rachel) Bailey of Winter Haven, Florida and Jason (and Tracey) Bailey of Galesburg, Illinois, two step sons, Kevin (and Leah) Hannon of San Antonio, Texas and Patrick (and Carrie) Hannon, Jr. of Harvard, Illinois, a step daughter, Barbara Woods of Mt. Prospect, Illinois, a brother, Jerry (and Mim) Moore of Laneville, Texas, four grandchildren, and five step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter, and her Aunt Vera and Uncle Kize.
Joan continued her education in Galesburg and graduated from Browns Business College. She worked in the personnel department at Galesburg Cottage Hospital for several years. She also worked for Yellowstone National Park for several summers and the Steak-N-Shake Corporate office. She was a member of the former Ontario Congregational Church, Ontario, Illinois. She enjoyed painting, gardening, and especially traveling to her favorite places, Yellowstone and Maui, Hawaii. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and taking them on traveling adventures including national and state parks. To know her was to love her. She loved life, always one traveling adventure after another. She always saw the good in everyone and everything.
Cremation was accorded. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 6, 2021 at the Rio Presbyterian Church, Rio. Pastor Maura McGrath-Nagle will officiate. A luncheon will follow the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Project Love of Eloise, Eagle Lake, Florida.
