Mrs. Lois G. (Cook) Swanson

On September 22, 2018, Lois G. Swanson, age 97, of Galesburg, went home to be with her Savior Jesus Christ, who she accepted into her heart in 1952. 

She was born October 6, 1920 at Cottage Hospital to Delos W. and Etta May Cook.  Delos Cook was a machinist and co-inventor of the Gale automobile.  She married Robert C. Swanson November 2, 1941 who preceded her in death November 29, 2011.  Except for a period during World War II, when she lived in New York, she lived in Galesburg her entire life.

Also preceding her in death are brothers, Edward and William Cook; sister, Ethel Frymire; and two sons in infancy.

She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1938 and from Brown’s Business College in 1939.  She was Deputy City Clerk for the City of Galesburg for many years, retiring in 1983. She was a charter member of Bethany Baptist Church, a Sunday school teacher, and for 24 years a youth director with her husband, Bob.

She is survived by two sons, Stephen (Pamela) of Pleasanton, California and Thomas (Lisa) of Roseville, California; four grandchildren, Jeffrey (Wendy), Tracy (William), Tyler (Lauren), and Alyssa (Ari); and eight great grandchildren.

Cremation has been accorded.  Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel.  Memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev.
