Mrs. M. Joan Boynton Obituary

Mrs. M. Joan Boynton, 90, passed away at 1:10 am Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at her home surrounded by her family.

Joan was born October 26, 1931, in Galesburg, the daughter of Edwin M. and Mabel L. (Cunningham) Phillips. She married Max G. “Jerry” Boynton on June 22, 1950, in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on June 1, 2009.

Left to cherish Joan’s memories are her children, Kevin D. (Jean) Boynton of Rothschild, Wisconsin, Kristy D. (the late Steve) Johnson of Galesburg and Kraig D. Boynton of Galesburg; five grandchildren, Gy. Sgt. Jason N. (Angela) Boynton, Retired, of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin, Major Colin P. (Ellen) Boynton of Mission Rancho Viejo, California, Sean M. (Emmy) Cratty of Lake in The Hills, Illinois, Debra A. Cratty and Mark S. (Taylor) Cratty both of Galesburg, and eight great grandchildren, Liberty F. Boynton, Hailey, Mikey, Hannah, Elise and Logan Cratty, and Claire and Evelyn Boynton; her sister-in-law, Cheri Phillips of Galesburg and brother-in-law, Terry and Cara Boynton of Galesburg.  She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband; two daughters, Rhonda Boynton and Karen D. Cratty and her brother, William A. Phillips.

Joan graduated from Galesburg High School in 1949. In her early years, Joan was a homemaker raising four children. Later in life, she and Jerry caught the antique bug and began going to auctions and setting up at various antique shows. In doing so, they made many friends, traveled, and had many interesting experiences.

Above all else, Joan was most proud of being a mom, grandma, and grandma great. She provided a loving home where guests and family always felt welcome, and no one ever went away hungry. Her home was her sanctuary where she felt comfortable, confident, and at ease. Many family nights were spent there with an unimaginable number of games of Phase 10 and Dominos. Family was her most precious treasure. She was a longtime member of Faith United Methodist Church. She loved to bake brownies every year for their annual Turkey Dinner.
