Mrs. Margaret Eleanor “Peg” Bowles, 102, of Alpha, Illinois, formerly of Galesburg, Illinois died 2:40 a.m. Friday, December 30, 2022, at her home.
She was born September 21, 1920, in Augusta, Illinois to Virgil and Erma (Grunwald) Randell. She married Jack “Tubby” Bowles, June 16, 1946, in Galesburg. He preceded her in death October 24, 1995.
Surviving are two sons, Jack Bowles of Alpha and Kenton (and Pam) Bowles of Alpha, a daughter, Marna (and the late Charles) Briggs of Elberton, Georgia, five grandchildren, Dale Bowles, Kenton Michael Bowles, Tom Bowles, Tony Briggs, and Penny Briggs, eight great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Paul “Pinky” Randell.
Margaret graduated from Galesburg High School in 1938. She worked at the Illinois Camera Shop in Galesburg for several years, but her true calling was taking care of her husband and children as a homemaker. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Galesburg and Alpha Baptist Church. She was also on the board of the Galesburg Women’s Bowling League, a member of the Elks Women’s Lodge, American Legion Auxiliary, and La Femme. In her free time, she enjoyed bowling, including several area women’s bowling leagues, playing cards, knitting, reading, and playing the piano and violin.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2023, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the chapel. Pastor Andy Busch will officiate. Burial will be in Alpha Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
