Mrs. Margaret Marie (Swanson) Daly

Margaret Marie Swanson Daly, 90, of Galesburg, died at 1:55 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2018 in Hawthorne Inn.

She was born June 25, 1928, in Chicago, the daughter of Margaret Ayer and David Leland Swanson.  She married Gray Osler Daly on December 21, 1949, in Chicago.  He preceded her in death on November 7, 1999.  She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Ayer Daly on January 18, 1997 and a brother, David G. Swanson.

She is survived by two sons, Gray Christopher (Kathleen) Daly of Crystal Lake and Stephen Willis (Stephanie) Daly of Galesburg; a grandson, Christopher Hugh (Allison) Daly; a great grandson, Benedict Hart Daly; and beloved family friends, Vicki Milligan and Patty Zepeda.

Margaret graduated from Knox College.  In the earlier years of her marriage, she taught school in Meridian, Mississippi, Ralston, Nebraska, and Peoria, Illinois.  She was a member of Grace Anglican Church, in Galesburg, and its Altar Guild and Women’s Guild.  Margaret was also a member of the Knox College 50-Year Club, Delta Delta Delta Alumnae Sorority, and Chapter HO of the PEO.  She had also volunteered for the FISH Food Pantry.

In accord with her wishes, cremation will be accorded and there will be no visitation.  A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Grace Anglican Church.  Father Andy Ainley will officiate.  Private family burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Anglican Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is handling arrangements for the family.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
