Mrs. Marilyn Ruth Green, 86 of Wataga, Illinois passed away at 2:35 pm Wednesday, January 13, at the Allure of Geneseo Nursing Home.
Marilyn was born November 16, 1934 in Galesburg, Illinois the daughter of Theodore “Ted” and Ruth Marie (Hessler) Johnson. She married Robert J. Green on June 27, 1977 in Galesburg.
Surviving is her husband of 43 years, Robert of Wataga and many cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, loving aunts, uncles, family and friends.
Marilyn attended grade school at one room schools- Condra and Sunrise in Henderson Township. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1952 and Western Illinois University in 1956. She worked as an elementary school teacher for Galesburg District 205 for 38 years, teaching at Allen Park and Silas Willard Elementary schools. She retired in June 1994. Marilyn was a member of the Knox County Retired Teachers, the Alpha Delta Kappa organization and the Round Table Study Club.
Marilyn enjoyed traveling all over the world. She took sabbaticals from school to spend a year in Kotzebue, Alaska and another year in New Mexico. Her many trips were with Bob or her teacher friends, family or with tour groups. Marilyn visited the Artic and Antarctica. Her wish was to visit every Presidential Library. Marilyn and Bob enjoyed many day trips with the Knox County Farm Bureau’s Prime Timers. Marilyn also enjoyed reading and making scrapbooks.
Marilyn was a faithful member First Lutheran Church, where she was involved in several groups and Circles within the church. She was a member of the Church Women United.
Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 am Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 am at the chapel with the Rev. Dr. Pamela Marolla officiating. Due to guidelines associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing and facemasks will be required with limited occupancy.
