Mrs. Marilyn J. Riney, 83, of Abingdon, Illinois passed away at home with family by her side on Friday, January 27, 2023, at 5:00 p.m.
She was born on June 9, 1939, in Galesburg, Illinois to Roy and Mary (Fentem) Cochran. She married Doyle L. Riney in Tunica, Mississippi on May 31, 1957.
She will be lovingly remembered and sorely missed by her husband of 65 years, Doyle L. Riney of Abingdon, two sons, Steven (and Shelley) Riney of Peoria, Illinois and Gary (and Laurie) Riney of Abingdon, a daughter, Kathy (and Eric) Mueller of Decatur, Illinois, a brother, Allen (and Gloria) Cochran of Lakeland, Georgia, a sister, Louise (and Mike) Paxton of Lakeland, Georgia, ten grandchildren, Chad (and Mindy) Riney, Jeremy Riney, Jason (and Lynzee) Riney, Justin (and Jamie) Riney, Crystal (and Jess) Riney, Stephanie Riney, Whitney (and Tyler) Robbins, Jared Riney, Leif (and Anna) Mueller, and Lance (and Alyssa) Mueller, and ten great grandchildren, with one on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Alvin Cochran, Louis Ford, and LaVerne Ford, and two sisters, Sandra Cochran and Evelina Cline.
Marilyn graduated from Elmwood High School in 1957 and later moved to Abingdon. She worked several jobs in the area including Protexall, Gross Galesburg, and Ben Franklin, but her true passion was being a homemaker for her family. They raised their family in the faith while attending the First Baptist Church in Abingdon. Marilyn enjoyed classic country music, playing cards (especially Pitch), shopping yard sales, and spending time with family.
Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 2, 2023, at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Home in Abingdon. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Danny Hunt officiating. Burial will be in the Knoxville Cemetery, Knoxville, Illinois.
