Mrs. Mary Clayton Obituary

Mrs. Mary Jane Clayton, 61 of Abingdon, passed away at 11 p.m. Friday, February 4, 2022 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.

She was born May 14, 1960 in Galesburg, the daughter of John H. and Iva Jane (Johnson) Jackson.  She married Gary Clayton, Sr. on October 5, 2013 in Galesburg.

Mary is survived by her husband, Gary Clayton, Sr.; her sons, Gary (Christy) Clayton, Jr. of Galesburg, Allen (Shelly) Clayton of Monmouth and Travis (Tressa Johnson) Clayton of Abingdon; seven grandchildren, Kelly, Ivan, Daygen, Sophia, Bella, Esperanza and Marcos; one great-granddaughter, Releigh; two nephews that she treated as sons, David Woodruff and Shane (Melissa Ballard) Brown, and their daughter that she treated as a granddaughter, Gracie. Her siblings, Joni Carlson of Abingdon, Julie Nelson and John Randy Jackson, both of Galesburg; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother-in-law, Joe Carlson, a nephew, Justin Carlson, her in-laws, Larry and Mirmadean Clayton, Sr., and a sister-in-law, Carol Brown.

Mary grew up in the Galesburg and Knoxville areas.  She has lived in Abingdon since 2013.  She worked as a CNA at the former Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Knoxville.  She enjoyed fishing, playing card games, playing pool and spending time with family.

Cremation will be accorded.  A time to celebrate her life will be held from 5 p.m. until ? at 200 N. Harshbarger St. in Abingdon.. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
