Mrs. Nettie Joann Dunne, 77, of Wataga, Illinois, passed away at 12:17 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois, with her family by her side.
Nettie was born on January 13, 1949, in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of Daniel Benedict and Ida (Land) Steele. She married Thomas Dunne, Jr. on April 8, 1967, in Kahoka, Missouri, and together they shared nearly 60 years of marriage filled with family and devotion.
She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas; one son, Tony (and Rhonda) Dunne of Tulsa, Oklahoma; four daughters, Terri (and James) Ransom of Keystone Heights, Florida, Tamara (and Daniel) Nordeen of Galva, Illinois, Debra (and Charles) McCullough of Hannibal, Missouri, and Amelia (and John) St. Clair of Rio, Illinois; one Daughter-in-Law, Tina Benedict of Galesburg, Illinois; sisters, Jody DeLonjay of Quincy, Illinois, Ivy Benedict of Galesburg, Illinois, Alice Hall of Keokuk, Iowa, and Donna Steele of Judsonia, Arkansas; brothers, Wayne Hall of Fort Madison, Iowa, David Benedict of Knox City, Missouri, Allen Hall, and James Steele, both of Keokuk, Iowa, and Brian Steele of Kensett, Arkansas; as well as 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by both parents, two step-fathers, Eugene Hall and Donald Steele, three brothers, Thomas Hall, Robert Hall and Donald Steele, two sons, Thomas Dunne III and Daniel Benedict, one grandson, Charles St. Clair, and one great-grandson Drake Dunne.
Nettie found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved cooking for her family, working on puzzles, playing bingo, gardening, canning, old movies, good music, cross country, motorcycle trips, football, dancing and yearly Fall/Halloween cookouts. She will be remembered for her warmth, her dedication to her family, and the many memories she created with those she loved.
A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2026, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services, Galesburg Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m., with Chaplain Jordan Knight officiating. Memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences may be shared at www.h-p-w.com.
