Nora E. Baker, 102, was called home by the Lord on December 26, 2022. Nora, formerly of Abingdon, passed away at Farmington Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she had made her home for the past six years.
Nora was born December 2, 1920 in Idabel, Oklahoma, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Mitchell) Sharp. She married Joseph (Joe) Baker on May 9, 1942 in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Joseph passed away January 2, 2004.
Nora is survived by two sons, Jerry (Michelle) Baker of Abingdon, Charles (Bob) and (Janet) Baker of Cumberland, Wisconsin. Two daughters, Joann (Bill) Brier Thousand Oaks, California and Marsha (Ric) Wixforth Galesburg, Illinois. One sister, Donna Jones of Bradenton , Florida. 8 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. Nora was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 4 brothers, and 3 sisters.
Nora lived most of her life in the Abingdon and Hermon area. She worked at the Galesburg Research Hospital for many years, retiring in 1983. Nora enjoyed traveling and had several adventures. Nora was involved with the Black Fox Drum singers and traveled with them to many performances. The group went several times to the nursing home to see Nora and entertain all the residents. Nora was most recently a member of Coldbrook Christian Church. For many years she attended The Avon Baptist Church until it closed. Nora read the bible through each year for many years until her eyesight failed.
Visitation will be 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 4th, 2023 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Rick Warren will officiate. Burial in the Abingdon cemetery. Memorials may be made to The Black Fox Drum or Farmington Village Activity Department.
