Mrs. Phyllis M. (Johnson) Flaar

Mrs. Phyllis M. Flaar, 89, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away at 8:40 pm Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

Phyllis was born May 26, 1931 the first baby born in Galesburg Cottage Hospital new labor and delivery addition. She is the daughter of Clarence and Dorothy (Castle) Johnson. She married Richard H. Flaar on July 13, 1952 at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Phyllis is survived by her son, David (and Coleen) Flaar of Galesburg; her daughter-in-law, Charmaine Flaar of Oswego, Illinois; five grandchildren, Shane (Nicole) Flaar of O’Fallon, Illinois, Michelle (Adam) Carlson of Monmouth, Illinois, Kelsey (Cody) Lam of Monmouth, Mike (Denise) Flaar of Monticello, Illinois and Rick (Shawn) Flaar of Montgomery, Illinois; ten great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Marilyn (Gary) Sage of Galesburg. She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her son, Robert Flaar.

Phyllis was a rail roader’s wife and a homemaker. She was blessed to be able to stay at home to care for their son’s and their home. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1949 and attended Western Illinois University for two years. Phyllis enjoyed getting together with her friends to play Bridge and was in several Bridge groups. Her and Richard had a love for golf and had played on the golf leagues of Bunker Links. Phyllis was a member of the Galesburg Women’s Club and Trinity Lutheran Church.

Phyllis had requested private services with a burial next to her husband in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Knox County Humane Society.
