Mrs. Rose Anne Weaver Obituary

Rose Anne Weaver, 91, died on March 5, 2021 at White Pine Assisted Living in Blaine, Minnesota.

She was born May 7, 1929 in Galesburg, Illinois. She was named after her maternal grandmother Anna Hambsch Rose. She married Robert J. Weaver (of Canton, Illinois) September 9, 1951 in Galesburg at the First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her spouse, Robert J. Weaver; father, Howard LeRoy Mead; mother Hazel Mae (Rose) Mead; brother, Franklin Howard Mead; and sister, Mary Louise (Mead) Weaver.

She is survived by three children and their spouses. Her daughters, Janis Kay (William Chadwick) Pistell of Galesburg and Debra Anne (Michael Allen) Hendricks of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina; her son, Thomas Robert Weaver (Lori Nelson) of Blaine, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Dr. Kathryn Ann Weaver of Los Angeles, California, Jessica Anne (Presley) Caudill of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, Jacob Thomas Weaver of Blaine, Minnesota, and Andrew (Alexandra) Hendricks of North Carolina. Rose Anne is survived by four great grandchildren: Emma Rose Anne Caudill (who was named for her), William Michael Caudill, James Alexander Hendricks, and Dean Martin Caudill.

Rose Anne was raised and educated in the Galesburg, graduating from Galesburg High School in 1947. She attended the University of Illinois. She also attended classes at Carl Sandburg College. Her first business related job was for Brown Specialty Company as a bookkeeper. Following her position at Brown Specialty, she was a private secretary for the steel purchasing agent at Admiral Corporations. She then worked for thirty-five years at Galesburg Broadcasting Company- first as a bookkeeper and then as office manager, following as an Account Executive serving in Galesburg and surrounding areas.

She had a strong love for Galesburg and volunteered much of her time to the Galesburg Community through the years. She served on the board of Lincoln School PTA, was president of the Galesburg High School Band Parent Association, member of the Galesburg Civic Art Center Board, the Midwest Credit Union Board, the Knox-Galesburg Symphony Board, and the Galesburg Convention and Visitors Center.

Rose Anne also served on the Galesburg Chamber of Commerce and organized a membership drive of the Chamber which produced the largest membership ever. She was a hostess of the Galesburg Chamber of Commerce – Galesburg On the Go breakfasts. She was the chairperson and organizer for the Chamber of Commerce Thanksgiving luncheons and was guest speaker on occasion. Rose Anne was a member of Sunrise Rotary where she was named a Paul Harris Fellow, the highest award presented by Rotary International. She was also active as a member of a P.E.O. chapter. When retired she volunteered as a reading buddy at the Gale Elementary School.

Rose Anne’s hobbies were knitting, card playing – pinochle and bridge, writing and art. In her lifetime she cut silhouettes as well as pencil-sketched and painted numerous watercolors. Rose Anne’s watercolor paintings and silhouettes were displayed at the Art Center in Galesburg. One of her watercolor paintings was selected by Joanne Goudie of Knox College to hang in the Galesburg Civic Art Center’s permanent collection. Rose Anne wrote and published two cookbooks (Cooking with Grandma Rosie and Still Cooking with Grandma Rosie). For her family she also wrote a book about her life growing up during the great depression.

Visitation will be noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 2021at the First United Methodist Church.  Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m.  Those wishing to attend the service “virtually” may tune into the church’s You Tube channel at https://youtu.be/hopXR39gY6I.
