Mrs. Ruth E. Jamerson, 87, formerly of Abingdon, Illinois died 7:50 a.m. Thursday, April 27, 2023, at Royal Oaks Care Center, Kewanee, Illinois.
She was born August 12, 1935, in Abingdon to Roy B. and Cora B. (Neargarder) Boydstun. She married William Linger, February 17, 1956, in Grandview Air Force Base in Missouri. She later married Ernest J. Jamerson in Farmville, Virginia. He preceded her in death June 29, 1980.
Surviving are two sons, Kim Jamerson and Ernest Jamerson, Jr., eight daughters, Icelee Jamerson Nelson, Denise Smith, Tina Moton, Ronni Pfeiffer, Maribeth Coffee-Sears, Theresa Linger, Lilly Mae (and Douglas) Vega-Hampton, and Rose Jamerson, a sister, Betty Boydstun, 31 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren, and 10 great-great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Billy Lee Linger, a daughter, Debra Bartlett, a brother, John Delroy Boydstun, a sister, Mary Pearl Boydstun, two grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
Ruth graduated from Abingdon High School in 1953. She continued her education at the Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas, studying secretarial. She later studied horticulture and received a degree in horticulture. She served in the United States Air Force from 1954 until 1957. She was honorably discharged with the rank as Airman Second Class. She worked for Generals and Colonels and as she would say “had a lot of great times!”. Ruth was of the Christian-Catholic faith. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She enjoyed bird watching and crafts.
Visitation will be 12:00 Noon to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Abingdon Chapel. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery with Military Rites by the Abingdon American Legion Honor Guard.
