Mrs. Zenobia (Holmes) Haymon

Zenobia Haymon, 94, of Galesburg, died at 1 a.m. Thursday, December 31, 2020, at home with her daughter and granddaughters by her side.

She was born September 10, 1926, in Greenwood, Mississippi, the daughter of Conner and Willie D. (Ware) Holmes.  She married Israel S. Haymon of May 7, 1943, in Greenwood.  He preceded her in death on October 23, 1991.

She is survived by her daughter, Yvonne Haymon; granddaughters, Shavonna and Lashona; great grandchildren, Cyiree, D.J., JoJo, Nariah, and Jaonna; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings, Delawrence, Delories, Conner Jr., Verdulla “Perrywinkle”, and Prentiss.

Zenobia was raised and educated in Greenwood, Mississippi.  After her marriage, the couple moved to St. Louis, where they lived until 1963.  In 1963, the family moved to Galesburg, where Zenobia worked at the Galesburg State Research Hospital until it closed in 1985.  She attended the All-Nation Pentecostal Church, now New Pentecostal Church.  Zenobia will be remembered as always being in the services of others, praising the Lord.
