Ms. M. Elaine Akers (Curry) Harrison

Ms. M. Elaine Akers Harrison, 90, of Galesburg, Illinois died 4:43 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2022, at her home.

She was born March 3, 1932, in San Antonio, Texas the only child of Curtis and Lily Mae (Arden) Curry.  She was raised by Burt and Jessie McMahon in San Antonio.  She married Loren Akers in 1949 in Plymouth, Illinois.  She later married Arthur Harrison in 1981 in Burlington, Iowa. 

Surviving are two sons, Steven Akers of Galesburg and Craig (and Debbie) Akers of Avon, Illinois, two daughters, Rita Sinclair of Avon and Lori Akers of Galesburg, eleven grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, the parents that raised her, and a son, Kevin Akers on January 12, 2005. 

Elaine worked for Outboard Marine Corporation, Gale Products Division in Galesburg for several years.  She also worked for the Kensington Hotel and Jumer’s Hotel.  She later owned and operated a restaurant in Avon and motels in Roseville, Illinois and Clarion, Iowa.  She attended the Oasis Church in East Galesburg.  She was very active member in the former Moose Lodge in Galesburg.  She was a Sunday School teacher, Cub Scout Mother, and a Brownie Scout Mother.  Elaine loved her family and spending time with her children and grandchildren. 

Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday, June 9, 2022, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel.  Cremation will follow the visitation.  Private committal service will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Colmer, Illinois.  Memorials may be made to the family.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
