76 of Galesburg, formerly of Abingdon, died at 1:18 am Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006 at Heartland Health Care Center in Galesburg. She was born November 1, 1929 in Avon to Raymond and Alice Day Irons. She married William "Mike" Suydam in 1955 in Lockport, IL. He preceded her in death in June of 1974. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one son, John P. Suydam; one sister, Betty Raye Irons. Surviving is one daughter, Tina (and Randy) Hartz of Abingdon and several cousins. She grew up in Abingdon and graduated from Abingdon High School. She then attended Isothermal College in North Carolina where she received an associate degree in housekeeping and business. After the death of her husband, she moved to Raleigh NC and worked as an executive housekeeper for the Sheraton Corp. for several years and returned to Abingdon in 1987, where she worked for Nurse's House Call in Galesburg. She was a member of the National Executive Housekeepers Association, Tar Heels Chapter. She was also a member of the Red Hat Club, Merry Hearts Chapter in Galesburg. Funeral service will be at 1:30 pm Friday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Jon Prain will officiate. Burial will be in Avon Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until 1:30 pm Friday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or Western Illinois Animal Rescue in Monmouth.
