Opal Fern Burton

77, of 423 S. Western Ave. died at 1:17 am Friday, February 13, 2004 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. She was born on October 11, 1926 in New Philidelphia, IL to Clifford and Bessie McCarty Thrasher. She married Frank Gillenwater. She later married Robert D. Williams. She later married Richard Burton on December 6, 1969 in Abingdon. He preceded her in death on January 15, 2001. Surviving are one son, Bobby G. (and Cindy) Williams of Shawnee, OK; one daughter, Caroline A. (and Lyle) Nelson of RR Abingdon; one sister, Maxine Collins of Abingdon; 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Larry E. Gillenwater & Jimmy D. Williams, one grandson, Lawrence E. Gillenwater and one brother, Glenn Thrasher. She was a homemaker and had worked at the Ordinance Plant in Burlington, Iowa. She served as clerk for the Indian Point Township since May of 1985. She was a member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 Auxiliary. Graveside service will be at 11:00 am Monday at the Abingdon Cemetery. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Friends may call from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Sunday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon. Memorials may be made to the family.
