P. Elaine Donaldson Morss

87, of Abingdon, passed away peacefully Monday, Oct. 5, 2009 at the Care Center of Abingdon. She was born on January 8, 1922 on a farm in rural Middlegrove to Leo and Hilma (Cowman) Donaldson. They preceded her in death. She married her high school sweetheart Leaon Morss on Nov. 1, 1943. He passed away on Aug. 20, 2006. Elaine leaves to cherish her memory one son, Tom (Jessie) Morss of Peoria, one granddaughter, Gina (Bill) Fischer of Peoria, three great-grandchildren, Noah, Kylie and Vanessa, one sister, Leona Runyon of Yates City, two brothers, David Donaldson of Pittsboro, North Carolina and Johnny Donaldson of Powell, Wyoming, a niece, nephew and many extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Connie, and sister, Pauline. Elaine graduated from Maquon High School in 1941. Following graduation she worked for the Department of the Navy in Washington, D.C. as part of the World War II effort and was a proud Army wife. Known to many as "Mother Morss", she worked as a secretary at Gale Products in Galesburg for more than 30 years, retiring in 1982. Her work-ethic was unmatched by most and her passion for her family was larger than life. Elaine loved traveling with her husband, big band music and dancing. She was a talented baker and known especially for her delicious pies. She was a member of the Abingdon Congregational Church and also enjoyed Wednesday services at the Care Center with Eleanor Landon. A visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. A celebration of life service will be held Friday, October 9, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the chapel. Rev. M. Annette Faull and Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will follow at the Abingdon Cemetery. Family and friends will gather for a luncheon afterwards at the Congregational Church.
