90 of RR Abingdon, died at 7:55 am Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. He was born June 28, 1915 in Knox County near Knoxville to Herbert and Nellie Nelson Larson. He married Alice Jean Showalter on September 30, 1939 in Davenport, IA. She preceded him in death on October 15, 1987. He later married Alice B. Pickering Reese on October 15, 1988 in Grand Junction, CO. She preceded him in death on October 6, 2005. Surviving are one son, Rick (and Ann) Larson of East Galesburg; two daughters, Sandy Whetsell of Summerville, SC and Ronda (and Danny) DeJaynes of Abingdon; one stepson, Dick (and Dee) Weese of Grand Junction, CO; one brother, Lewis Larson of Galesburg; three sisters, Idella Maranville, Joan Gabriel and Betty (and Don) VanWinkle all of Galesburg; four granddaughters, Ashley & Kelsey DeJaynes of Abingdon, Kim (and Russell) Lindfors of Abilene, TX and Patty Whetsell of St. George, SC; 2 great granddaughters and 1 great grandson; 9 step grandchildren; 17 step great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Faye Jones. He farmed for over 25 years near London Mills, Rapatee and Cameron. He also worked at Butler Mfg. in Galesburg for 27 years retiring in March of 1980. He was a member of the Berwick Baptist Church and was a past deacon of the church. He was a member of the former Abingdon Boat Club and was a member of the Knox County Sportsmans Club. He was an avid woodworker, loved working in his yard and taking care of and feeding his birds. Funeral service will be at 1:30 pm Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Jay Cowell will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Tuesday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to Berwick Baptist Church.
