Ray Landon Obituary

85, a resident of the Care Center of Abingdon and former City Clerk for the city of Abingdon for 18 years, died at 1:02 am Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. He was born on August 16, 1920 in Lenox Township, Warren County, IL to Lester and Pauline Meadows Landon. He married Ruth Bond in Abingdon. He later married Doris Cox in Abingdon. Surviving are two sisters, Donna (and Remley) Darmer and Sharon (and Paul) Way all of Abingdon; nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, three sisters. He had lived in Abingdon most of his life. He was a Ford salesman for the former Dechow Motors in Abingdon, was an electrician for the former L.E. Meyers Construction Company in Galesburg, was a salesman for Kenneth Davies Wausau Homes, owned and operated the Pool Hall in Abingdon and last served as City Clerk before his retirement. He was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church. He was an Army veteran of WW II. He was a member and past commander of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. He was also a member of the Travelers Protection Association, Moose Lodge #894 in Galesburg, past member of Abingdon Kiwanis Club, served on the celebration board during the Abingdon Sesquicentennial and was a former member of the Knox County Housing Authority. He was an avid bowler and Cubs fan. Services will be at 11:00 am Saturday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Raymond McLaren will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #381. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Saturday at the chapel.
