Raymond "Ray" C. Jones, Sr.

., 80 of Oldsmar, FL died Monday evening, February 21, 2005 at Mease Countryside Hospital in Safety Harbor, Florida. He was born on September 10, 1924 in Dacoma, OK to Homer and Grace Parker Jones. He married Dona L. Thurman on March 28, 1946 in Medicine Lodge, KS. She survives. Also surviving are three sons, Michael G. (and Jayne) Jones of Abingdon, Ivan L. (and Janice) Jones of Bell Buckle, TN, Raymond C. "RC" Jones, Jr. of Kewanee; 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Willie Jones and one sister, Bessie Soper. He had lived in Abingdon most of his life where he owned and operated the former Ray's Service station for 25 years. He moved to Florida in 1995. While living in Abingdon, he was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, a member and Paul Harris Fellow of the Abingdon Rotary Club, served on the Zoning Board and coached Little League Baseball. He was a member of the Abingdon Pottery Collector's Club. He was a WW II veteran serving in the US Air Force. Cremation will be accorded. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, at the Gull Aire Village Clubhouse in Oldsmar. Local services in Abingdon will be announced at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Oldsmar First Responders in care of Dona Jones, 126 Dolphin Drive South, Oldsmar, FL 34677. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of local announcements.
