Raymond W. Purchase

75 of RR Abingdon, died at 11:52 pm Thursday, April 13, 2006 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. He was born on July 26, 1930 in Berwick Township, Warren County, IL to Charles and Mabel Courtney Purchase. He married Ruth Allen on August 27, 1950 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Galesburg. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Raymond G. (and Deborah) Purchase of RR Berwick, IL and Steven A. Purchase of Monmouth, IL; 3 grandchildren, Jason Purchase, Jeremy Purchase and Stephanie Purchase; 7 great grandchildren; two brothers, Melvin (and Marlene) Purchase of Alliance, Nebraska and Donald Purchase of Cameron, IL; two sisters, Mary (and Richard) Larson of Geneseo, IL and Joan Singleton of Bushnell, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents. He had lived in the Abingdon and Cameron areas all his life. He worked for the former M & St. L Railroad Company and later at Gale Products in Galesburg for over 28 years until it closed. He then worked for Robert Hardy Field Tiling in Roseville. He was a member of the Western Illinois Antique Car Club and the Prairie Drifter Snow Mobile Club. His hobbies included being a handyman, small engine repair, woodworking, surf fishing and hunting. Funeral service will be at 10:00 am Tuesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 pm Monday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
