Rex E. Davies

86 of 704 W. Jackson St. died at 10:21 pm Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. He was born September 25, 1919 in Knox County to Guy E. and Bessie F. Peck Davies. He married Mareta A. Scott on April 5, 1941 in Burlington, Iowa. She survives. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, including Brian Davies of RR Maquon who was raised in their home, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Kenneth Davies. He attended the Harper Country School near Maquon and also attended Gilson High School. He was a farmer all his life in the rural Maquon area and a DeKalb seed dealer for 10 years. He moved to Abingdon from the farm in 1987. He was a member of the Abingdon Rotary Club, Knox County Farm Bureau, Western Illinois Antique Auto Association, a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots, and was a past member of the former Galesburg Pilot Club, past member of the Illinois Corn Growers Association, past member of the Elks Lodge in Galesburg. He was an avid collector of local historical information and enjoyed flying his plane and traveling. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Saturday, May 6, 2006 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in Haynes Cemetery near Delong. Visitation will be from one hour before the service on Saturday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
