Robert Moore Obituary

83 of RR Abingdon died at 4:23 pm Thursday, May 18, 2006 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born on February 11, 1923 near Gilson in Knox County to Fred and Mina Buffington Moore. He married Doris Cottom on December 10, 1950 at Owaneco, IL. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Arlene (and Jim) Smith of Murfreesboro, TN, Kathleen (and Dennis) Overstreet of Morton; one son, Kenneth Moore of Peoria Heights; a sister, Helen Smith of Eunice, MO; two brothers, Richard Moore of Florida and Thomas Moore of Victoria; 6 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 3 step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters and 4 brothers. He was a self employed carpenter and had lived in the Abingdon area since 1960, prior to that he had lived in Rio. He was a Navy veteran of WW II and was a member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. He was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church. He and his wife were also very active in the Abingdon stop of the Knox County Scenic Drive. Cremation will be accorded. Memorial service will be at 3:00 pm Sunday, May 21, 2006 at the Abingdon United Methodist Church. Rev. Paul Dinges will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour before the service on Sunday at the church. Military rites will be conducted by the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. Memorials may be made to the Abingdon United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
