Robert J. Whitenack

71, 205 W. Pearl St. died at 6:15 am Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. He was born June 21, 1934 in Media, IL to S.H. and Clara Marie Day Whitenack. He married Rebecca McDermet on September 27, 1959 in Abingdon. She survives. Also surviving are two sisters, Elizabeth (and Dr. Robert) Mitzel of North Naples, FL and Gladys Barstow of Grand Junction, CO; nieces and nephews. He moved to Abingdon in 1949. He graduated from Abingdon High School in 1953. He owned and operated Whitenack Tire Service in Abingdon for 25 years retiring in 1975. He was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church and the Methodist Men's Group. He enjoyed gardening and working around his home. Services will be at 1:00 pm Friday at the Abingdon United Methodist Church. Rev. Paul Dinges and Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Galesburg. Visitation will be from Noon until 1:00 pm Friday at the church. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Abingdon United Methodist Church or Western Illinois Kidney Center in Galesburg.
