Robert Dale Young

Robert Dale Young, passed peacefully on Saturday, July 15, 2023.  Bob was born in Galesburg, Illinois on December 19, 1938.

A graduate of the University of Illinois, he received a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. He began his career working the stockyards in Chicago and then moved into the insurance industry.  Bob enjoyed finishing his career logging millions of miles trucking across the country.

Bob enjoyed sports and spent many years coaching football, volunteering in track and field, umpiring and refereeing ballgames.  At the college level he was a passionate supporter of his alma mater the Fighting Illini.

In retirement, Bob looked forward to tending to his garden and harvesting his fruit trees.  He prepared fantastic homemade applesauce and wonderful Swedish pancakes.  In addition, he spent many years in California and loved to work in the Shipherds almond orchard.   

Bob is survived by his longtime companion, Mae Greppi of Ripon, California.  In addition, are daughters Leslie Cole of The Woodlands, Texas and Susan Myers and son-in-law Don Myers of Greeneville, Tennessee.  Grandchildren Mike Myers and wife Kelly, Bradley Myers, Jack and Gabrielle. In addition, Kyle and Michelle Shipherd of Ripon, California and grandchildren Olivia Shipherd, Sarah Shipherd, Kenton and wife Kaitlyn Shipherd.  Great grandchildren Evan Myers, Melissa Myers, and Kyle Shipherd.  Surviving him are sisters Bonnie Rich and Barbara and brother-in-law Larry Holden; brother Richard and sister-in-law Kathy Young.  Aunts Marilyn Main Vinson and Willodeane Carlson, as well as many nieces and nephews and cousins.  Yorkshire Terrier Jack, his Bowser, remained his faithful companion until his passing.  His parents, Robert and Inez Young, preceded him in death.

In his final years, he faced dementia with great humor and lots of laughter.  Our appreciation goes out to the staff and residents of Morning Pointe, Greeneville for their friendship and care.

Cremation will be accorded.  Graveside service will be noon, Friday, September 1, 2023, in the Ontario Cemetery, near Oneida.  Pastor Jordan Knight will officiate.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services is honored to be of service to the family.  Online condolences may be left for the family on the funeral home’s website at www.h-p-w.com
