Roger Lee Smith

68 of 607 S. East St. died at 12:25 pm Saturday, June 20, 2009 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. He was born on November 11, 1940 near Banner in Fulton County, Illinois to Walter "Pete" and Elsie (Pollit) Smith. He married Gloria Seward on August 16, 1990 in Springfield, Ohio. She survives. Roger is also survived by his children, Terry (and Angela) Smith of Robinson, IL, Gary Smith of Galesburg, IL, Larry Smith, Anastasia (and Mark) Waltz of Miamisburg, OH, Josette (and Jeff) Kerns of Monroe City, MO, Delbert (and Susan) Bennett of Mexico, MO and Quentin (and Amy Clark) Bennett of Mexico, MO; one brother, Michael Smith; 17 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, one sister and one grandson. Roger had lived in Abingdon the past five years and prior to that had lived in Mexico, MO and Springfield, OH. He retired from International Harvester Company in Springfield, OH. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Abingdon, IL. He enjoyed playing his guitar, working on computers, fishing and just talking to people. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Warren Cummins and Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Cremation will follow the service. Burial of Roger's cremains will be at a later date in the Apple Cemetery in Fulton County. Memorials may be made to the Church of God of Prophecy.
