77 of 603 N. Monroe St., died at 8:30 am Sunday, October 30, 2005 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born February 14, 1928 in Abingdon to Ralph and Helen Kilpatrick Burgess. He married Bertha Faler Day on May 14, 1954 in Abingdon. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Samuel Burgess of Abingdon, James (Norma) Day of Galesburg; three daughters, Alberta "Maggie" (Leanelle) Hanson of Knoxville, Gloria Ratajczak of Abingdon and Vonneda Johnson of Bushnell; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Danny Burgess, a daughter, Roberta Lankford, one brother, Ralph Burgess, Jr. and one sister, Sally Roach. He had lived most of his life in Abingdon. He had worked at foundries in Moline and Galesburg and later worked at the Abingdon Pottery, retiring in 1968. He served in the Army during WW II. He was a member of Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. He formerly attended the First Assembly of God in Abingdon. Graveside service will be at 1:00 pm Tuesday at the Abingdon Cemetery, where Military Rites will also be conducted by American Legion Post #381. Eleanor Landon will officiate. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
