81, Galesburg, died at 3:22 A.M., Saturday, October 13, 2007 at the Seminary Manor Nursing Home. Ross was born Christmas Day, 1925, in Princeville, Illinois to Hazel and Daniel Bent. He married Cora L. Emmons of Bellevue, Illinois on September 15th, 1958. Ross was preceded in Death by his parents Daniel and Hazel Bent; his brother Oliver Daniel (Cye) Bent, and his sisters, Maxine Berkshire, Nadine Gillenwater and Eileen Lewis. Ross is survived by his wife Cora Bent and his children Dan (and Julie) Bent, Peoria; Pamela (and Ron) Williams, Mackinaw; Sharon Norton, Galesburg; Teddy (and Sharon) Bent, Peoria; Robert (and Donna) Bent, Littlerock, CA; Christine (and Joe) Spence, Galesburg; and his brother Paul Bent, Vancouver, WA; and 11 grandchildren. Ross worked for PABST Brewery, the Teamsters driving for Producers Dairy, Briggs Pottery and Illinois Department of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) until his retirement. Ross served as a PFC and TEC Sgt., heavy machine gunner, in WWII in Company H, 66th Infantry in the US Army. During WWII, Ross received 2 Bronze Stars and was recommended for a Purple Heart for his participation in the Rhineland and Central European Campaigns. After returning from WWII, Ross joined the Abingdon American Legion. Ross enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Hobbies included fishing (spending many days fishing with Jim Bent) and bowling. Visitation will be from 9:30 am to 11:00 am Saturday, October 20, 2007 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Father Ernest Pizzamiglio will offer a brief Prayer Service immediately following the visitation. Graveside services will be held at the Abingdon Cemetery at 11:30 A.M. Saturday, October 20, 2007 with military Rites by Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. Memorials may be made to the Galesburg Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in his name. Special thanks go out to the Aides, Nurses, Staff and Administration of Seminary Manor and Community Hospices of America for the outstanding care and comfort that was provided to Ross, all the family members and friends.
