Rubie C. Famulener

105, resident of the Care Center of Abingdon, died at 7:35 am Tuesday, June 17, 2003 at the Care Center. She was born April 10, 1898 in Rainsboro, Ohio to Leslie and Elizabeth Holmes Curry. She married Kenneth M. Famulener on March 23, 1920 in Galesburg, IL.. He preceded her in death in 1961. Surviving are one daughter, Norma (and Roy) Lewis of Galesburg; four grandchildren, Crystal Beardsley, Larry Lewis, Lindon Lewis and Michael Lewis; 12 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death byone daughter, Marian Jean Famulener, an infant sister and two half sisters. She had lived in Abingdon most of her life and graduated from Abingdon High School in 1916. She graduated from the former Brown's Business College in Galesburg in 1918. She had worked as a telephone operator, had worked in several area restaurants and last worked as a sales clerk at the former Gamble Store in Abingdon. She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Abingdon. She was also a member of the Abingdon Garden Club where she had held positions in all the offices of the club, member of Order of Eastern Star and was past treasurer, and was a member of the Pythian Sisters. Funeral service will be at 2:30 pm Friday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon with Rev. M. Annette Faull and Rev Jon Prain officiating. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Friends may call one hour before the service on Friday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to her church or the Care Center of Abingdon activity department.
