97 a resident of the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville, formerly of Galesburg and Maquon died at 11:15 pm Sunday, October 22, 2006 at the Knox County Nursing Home She was born October 3, 1909 in Jackson County, IL near Campbell Hill to Denton Hubert and Bertha Mae Lively Williams. She married William M. Cottom on August 10, 1930 in southern Illinois . He preceded her in death in August of 1990. Surviving are three daughters, Doris Moore of Abingdon, Pat (and Jerry) Kruse of Rancho Mirage, CA and Joan (and Carl) Schisler of RR Galesburg; one brother, Gale R. (and Helen) Williams of Murphysboro, IL; 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren and a special friend, Estel Polen of Gilson. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Humphreys and four brothers, Floyd, Archie, Glenn and Raymond Williams. She grew up in southern Illinois and later moved to Monmouth in 1939. She and her husband moved to rural Maquon in 1941 where they farmed for 32 years, retiring in 1973 and moved into Maquon. She later moved to Galesburg in 2000 where she lived with her daughter until residing in the Knox County Nursing Home. She also worked at St. Mary's Nursing Home and at Mel's Red & White Grocery Store in Knoxville retiring from the grocery store in 1966. She was a member of the Orange Chapel United Methodist Church near Gilson. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking gardening and spending time with her daughters and grandchildren and families. Funeral service will be 10:00 am Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Dan Doty will officiate. Burial will be in Maquon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Wednesday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to Orange Chapel United Methodist Church.
