Talmadge Wimer Obituary

87, a resident of the Illinois Veteran Home in Quincy, IL since May 30, 2006 and formerly of Abingdon, died at 1:15 pm Sunday, December 3, 2006 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. He was born on April 12, 1919 near Ucon in Bonneville County, Idaho to Hoyt Sylvester and Jesse Saunders Wimer. He married Virginia E. Anderson on September 16, 1941 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She preceded him in death on December 29, 2000. Surviving are one daughter, V. Lynne (and Jerry) Bednarko of RR Petersburg, IL, with whom he had resided with from 2001 until 2006; two granddaughters, Jessica and Anna Bednarko; finve nieces, Lee Anne Oimoen of Libertyville, IL and Barbara King of Maple Hills, MN, Saline McCloud of Phoenix, AZ, Denise Smiley of Bountiful, UT and Carla Carlson of Kaysville, UT. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, NE and received his Master Degree from the University of Illinois. He served in the Air Force during World War II from 1941 until 1945 and was stationed in Lady in the Philippines. He taught Vocational Agriculture and was the FFA sponsor at Abingdon High School for 32 year retiring in 1982. He served as the City of Abingdon Building Inspector from 1982 until retiring in 1997. He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ where he served as trustee and treasurer. He later became a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Springfield, IL in 2002, a member of the Lutheran Missouri Synod. He also served as a member of the John Mosser Public Library board. He was a member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. He was also a member of the Abingdon Fall Festival Association, where he had served as secretary and treasurer. Funeral service will be 10:00 am Monday, December 11, 2006 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. M. Annette Faull will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery where military rites will be conducted. Visitation will be from5:00 until 7:00 pm Sunday at the chapel.
