, 74 of Abingdon, died at 2:22 am Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. He was born Feb. 1, 1932 in Hamilton, Alabama to PT and Susie Burrows Carter. He married Georgia Dunn on July 9, 1996 in Baraboo, WI. She survives. Also surviving are one son, Thomas (Mary Linda) Carter, Jr. of Galesburg, IL; one daughter, Linda Gail (Steve) VanFleet of Galesburg, IL; two stepsons, Frank "Tony" Jackson of Daytona Beach, FL and Mark Jackson of Astoria, IL; two stepdaughters, Tammy (Tim) Lindsey of Armington, IL and Joey Jackson of Layton, UT; three brothers, Tony (Janette) Carter of Jefferson, GA, Roland (Paula) Carter of Moline, IL and Woodrow (Denise) Carter of Detroit, AL; one sister, Alice (Wiley) Cook of Orion, IL; 1 grandchild, 2 great grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren and 4 step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother, Wilson Carter. He grew up near Hamilton and Detroit, Alabama. He had lived in Abingdon since 1959. He worked at the CB & Q Railroad, Koppers Inc., and the BNSF Railroad in Galesburg for 41 years retiring in 1997. He was a past member of the Galesburg Moose Lodge. He also had served as a union clerk. He was an avid fisherman, did woodworking, and enjoyed traveling and his family. Cremation will be accorded. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 9:00 pm Monday, Feb. 27, 2006 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton, IL at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Galesburg Railroad Museum.
