Tom Johnson, 59 formerly of Galesburg and Chillicothe Illinois, died on December 30, 2023, in Fountain Hills, Arizona. He was born in Galesburg in 1964 to Dick and Jane Johnson
He is survived by his brothers: Steve (Cindy) Johnson of East Moline, Illinois; Jeff Johnson of Vincennes, Indiana; Rick (Nancy) Johnson of Fountain Hills, Arizona and Robert (Michelle) Johnson of St. Charles, Missouri; Uncle Bob (Priscilla) Johnson of Corvallis, Oregon; and daughter Melanie (Ivan) Bazan of Albany, Oregon. His nephew Quint Johnson of South Jordan, Utah; Niece Erin Johnson of Smyrna, Georgia and his “tip toe cousins” and their children and grandchildren: Norm (Nancy) Freedlund of Batavia, Illinois and Tom (Carla) McGreevey of Moline, Illinois. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Jane Johnson
He proudly graduated from Galesburg High School in 1986, after which he lived and worked in Chillicothe under the loving and watchful eye of Sue Wujek working at the Community Workshop and Training Center (CWTC) in Peoria for nearly 34 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Galesburg. Tom moved to Arizona in January of 2022.
Tom was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. He participated in several special Olympic events and loved to swim. He never knew a stranger, greeting everyone with a welcoming “Hi, I’m Tom.” His family believes his warm spirit will live on in those who knew and cared about him throughout his life.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2023 at the First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg. A memorial service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the Church. Rev. Dr. Scott Carnes will officiate. Burial will be in Oneida cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to cwtc.org (Community Workshop & Training Center in Peoria) where people with disabilities go to work and grow and give people similar to Tom purpose, self-confidence and social skills.
