Velma Marie Jones

90, a resident of the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Knoxville and formerly of Abingdon, died at 5:15 pm Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at the Nursing Home. She was born on July 6, 1913 in Burnside to Ben and Bessie Sears Dunham. She married Everett C. Jones on April 24, 1954 in Abingdon. He preceded her in death on November 11, 1977. Surviving are five grandchildren, Patricia (and Jesse) Harper of Memphis, TN, Ronald (and Mary) Collins of Elkton, KY, Ellenore "Kay" (and Richard) Bontrager of Sarasota, FL, Duane (and Janet) Collins of Avon and Donald (and Linda) Collins, Jr. of Sciota; one daughter-in-law, Maxine Collins of Abingdon; one stepdaughter, Betty (and Bob) Smith of Pekin; three step-grandchildren, Dan Johnson of Abingdon, Nancy Pieper of Bushnell and Kristy (and Andy) Austin of London Mills; 13 great grandchildren, 15 step great grandchildren, 8 great great-grandchildren and 20 step great great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Donald Collins, Sr., one sister, Wilma Campbell and one great granddaughter, Kimberly Ann Felgar. She worked in the kitchen at the former Custer Hotel in Galesburg for several years and also was a homemaker. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Saturday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon. Rev. Ed Wislander will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Friends may call one hour before the service at the chapel.
