Victor N. Links

70, of 135 Knox Highway 8, St. Augustine, IL died at 10:20 AM Friday, November 14, 2003 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, IL. He was born on July 2, 1933 in Galesburg, IL to Victor and Selma McLaughlin Links. He married Velma L. Smith on October 9, 1953 in Abingdon, IL. She preceded him in death on May 26, 1966. He married Sarah E. Kennedy on June 26, 1970 in Rock Island, IL. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Kirt (and Sandy) Links of Abingdon, IL and Patrick E. Links of Normal, IL; a sister, Shirley Asencio of Galesburg, IL; two brothers, Donald Lee (and Bev) Links of Decatur, IL and Robert E. Links of Houma, LA; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents. He was a supervisor at the former Gales Products division of Outboard Marine Corp. in Galesburg for 27 years. He later worked as an engineer for the Hughes Space and Communications in Huntsville, AL, retiring in 1996. He served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. He was a 1951 graduate of Abingdon High School. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abingdon with Father Joseph Presley officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, November 17, 2003 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Cremation will follow services. A graveside service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 19, 2003 at the Abingdon Cemetery with Deacon Robert Myers officiating. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post #381. Memorials may be made to Abingdon Athletic Booster Club.
